Ipswich & West Moreton Learning Communities

Broad concepts of learning and education play a key role in building just, healthy and prosperous communities. The Ipswich Learning Communities Working Group was formed in mid-2010 to progress this agenda.

This partnership has representation from DEEDI (Dept of Employment, Economic Development & Innovation), Ipswich City Council,  Regional Development Australia Ipswich and West Moreton (RDA), UQ Boilerhouse Community Engagement Centre Ipswich, and UQ College Ipswich as well as Worklinks Inc share a vision of helping to  build a community culture that values and support lifelong learning in the Ipswich and West Moreton region.

A learning community philosophy underpins the operational concept of lifelong learning which is defined as any formal or informal learning activity undertaken across the lifespan. Lifelong learning has the aim of improving knowledge, skills and competencies within a personal, civic, social and/or employment related context. It includes learning in a variety of environments - at home, at work or at play.

The initial task undertaken by the group was to create a learning communities profile, audit and gap analysis for the region. We are pleased to announce that this report has now been finalised.

This report focuses at an Ipswich LGA, whole of city‟ level and presents a learning profile, an audit of lifelong learning facilities, services and programs, and a lifelong learning gap analysis.

Results from this work provide both an evidence base for subsequent actions in the Ipswich LGA, as well as a framework on which other LGAs within the West Moreton region can base their lifelong learning responses.
