Worklinks Get Set For Work - Take The Checkered Flag

Ten lucky young people received special invitations to meet drivers and watch practice at the Castrol EDGE Winternationals at Willowbank Raceway.

The participants from Worklinks Inc, 'Get set for work programme', were offered the special treat by Willowbank Raceway, Castrol EDGE and Team Bray.

Team Bray Principal, Victor Bray said the day out offered more than just a chance to feel part of an international sporting event.

"Of course the young people were really excited about the chance of seeing the cars and drivers," Victor said.

"But the visit to one of the world's great drag racing events also reinforced many of the lessons at their Get Set for Work programme".

The participants had been chosen as a reward because they had displayed the values that are encouraged in the 'Get set for work programme'.

The young people witnessed some of life's virtues, such as striving to achieve excellence, teamwork and good sportsmanship, in action, as drivers and support crew prepare for the largest drag racing event held outside of North America.

"Willowbank Raceway's General Manager, Steve Betts, said the young people were able to relate what they saw to different aspects of what they see back in their Get Set for Work training room, supporting everything from mathematics and science through to advertising, marketing and Television production.

During the visit, the participants met some of Drag Racing elite drivers - Victor Bray who has just completed 3 decades in the sport and a 6 six time national champion, Gary Phillips 12 times National Top Alcohol champion and Phil Laminatina who has already tied up this year's Top Fuel Championship.

Ms Jan Robinson, Manager of Worklinks, said this was a fantastic opportunity for their participants and expressed her thanks to everyone who contributed to the success of the day.
