Forty-six mature age unemployed people in the Caboolture region will be more able to find work following a State Government-backed series of four 10-week training programs, all including on-the-job experience with local employers.
Employment, Training and Industrial Relations Minister Tom Barton said today the Government was providing funding of $70 000 for the programs under its Breaking the Unemployment Cycle initiative.
"The project will be based at the recently opened training centre of Worklinks which has run similar programs in the Mitchelton area," Mr Barton said.
"The participants will be offered a skills profile and career analysis audit and their literacy, numeracy and living skills needs also will be assessed. Literacy training will be provided where required.
"All will receive work readiness training in job search and interview skills and at least two days a week of work experience with local employers.
"I'm hoping that next year will be a lot brighter for them and their long-term future much more promising thanks to the 10 weeks they will spend building their skills with Worklinks."
"It is a great satisfaction to Worklinks to be able to help participants into employment. We have run a similar program (which we call the "Connect" program) in the Mitchelton area for the past 3 years with excellent outcomes; we now look forward to assisting people from around the Caboolture area to find work" said Jan Robinson, Manager Worklinks.
