Castrol EDGE Winternationals hosts Worklinks Inc LCP visit

 

State and private school students from Worklinks Local Community Partnership Program took part today in an industry visit designed to highlight the careers and employment opportunities available with in the Drag Racing industry.


Held at Willlowbank Raceway during the 2nd day of qualifying for the Castrol EDGE Winternationals, the industry visit was hosted by Team Bray, Wicked Quick Top Fuel, Sunraysia TAFE College, Morgan & Wacker motorcycles and The Australian Drag racing magazine.


The students were from Staines Memorial College, Ipswich SHS, Bremer SHS, BUNDAMBA State Secondary College and The Springfield College. They were accompanied by three Worklinks staff members and a teacher.

 

Willowbank Raceway was happy to assist Worklinks LCP who is contracted by the Australian Government Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to facilitate the provision of careers advice to young people 13-19 years of age and to strengthen links between schools and industry.


Visiting participants were invited to tour the venue and speak directly with team members to gain a first hand insight into the careers available within this high performance sport. (45,000 spectators expected on race day). They also heard how some commercial organisations are looking to gain brand recognition to increase revenue.


During their tour of the facility, Team Bray gave the visiting party an overview of the computer requirements required for a modern day race team, Darren Morgan highlighted the benefits of training young people in motor sport at Sunraysia TAFE. Mark Wacker explained how proud Morgan & Wacker were to be the world's oldest Harley-Davidson Dealership outside the USA and outlined his company's involvement in the drag racing industry and John Collins from Australian Drag Racing Magazine finished the day off giving a presentation in the Team Bray pit area in regards to media coverage followed by a tour of Willowbank raceways media centre.


The industry visit enabled teams and companies to highlight the ways in which they work with other companies and teams across all states of Australia and on an international level. In doing so, they have assisted bringing both innovation and growth to the Drag Racing industry of Australia.


The Worklinks LCP participants were at the track for a large majority of the day and were given time to take in some of the qualifying action taking place down the quarter mile for the Castrol EDGE Winternationals.
